Primavera Upgrades Enterprise Project Management Product Suite

Primavera Upgrades Enterprise Project Management Product Suite
Primavera Systems, Inc. (Bala Cynwyd, PA), has released a new version of Primavera Enterprise, its enterprise project management software suite. Coming only six months after the product's first release, Version 1.5 provides Web-based communications and enhanced forward-looking project portfolio management features.

Primavera Enterprise software gives petrochemical companies, utilities, manufacturers, construction companies, telecommunications firms, and other project-driven businesses a suite of tools to proactively plan and control projects and resources. In addition to resource and cost management, it provides cross-program analysis and performance measurement capabilities. Its collaborative environment helps companies decide which projects to fund, how to allocate resources, when to terminate projects, and how to reallocate people and funds.

The enhanced product suite enables project and program managers to perform forward-looking project portfolio management through rich, Web-based communication, comprehensive resource and cost management, robust cross-program analysis and performance measurement capabilities.

This latest release features:

  • Primavera Project Planner for the Enterprise (P3e), Primavera's next-generation, multi-project planning, scheduling and control software.
  • Primavera Progress Reporter for Web-based distribution and updating of project assignments.
  • Primavera Portfolio Analyst for executive-level project portfolio analysis.

"Businesses can implement Primavera Enterprise for centralized control of their projects, as opposed to maintaining project data on separate desktops or in disparate databases," says Primavera Enterprise product manager David Pinski. "This solution provides project managers and executives a complete, enterprise-wide view of what is going on in their portfolio of projects."

Primavera Enterprise provides a centralized way to manage corporate resources across projects and programs.

Key highlights of the new release include:

  • Java Progress Reporter. The suite's Web/Java-based Progress Reporter provides team members with personalized assignments across all projects and tracks actual hours worked. According to Primavera, it improves accountability for both project and nonproject work, reduces paperwork and inaccurate data entry, and simplifies the administration of remote users.
  • Role-based resource forecasts and assignments. P3e lets managers assign resources based on roles, such as a level-3 automotive designer or a journeyman plumber. This helps companies understand project and staffing needs, and supports long-range planning based on role assignments.
  • Rich text notes. Rich text notes allow users to add nontext reference information in any P3e notes field. This includes pictures, formatted text, Web hyperlinks, and email addresses. In practice, project databases can now include site photographs, installation manuals, safety information and other critical data.
  • Advanced project templates. P3e 1.5 can use past projects as templates or starting points for new projects, speeding project creating and ensuring new plans benefit from previous experience.

The Primavera Enterprise product suite is a 32-bit system with a high- performance, scalable client/server architecture. It uses either Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server relational databases for multiuser environments. The client system requires Windows 95/98/NT and 32 MB RAM. The server requires Windows NT or Unix with 64-128 MB RAM. A single-user version incorporates an integrated, low-maintenance SQL database.

Pricing for P3e begins at $4000/user. The software is available from Primavera or its global authorized reseller network.
